Description:
On Monday August 2, 2010 at 7:00 P.M. Marc-Yves Regis will speak at Prosser Public Library in Bloomfield. Marc-Yves Regis is a photojournalist who uses his camera as a tool to document the human rights struggle of the voiceless, while capturing their courage, spirit and beauty. However, journalism does not sum up his entire career. He is the author of three books: "Haiti Through My Eyes," a selection of poetry about Haiti; "Deadly Road to Democracy," a first-person account of Haiti's violent struggle for democracy; and "Two Good Feet," a photographic documentary of physically-challenged Haitian children. Recently, Regis finished his latest book, "When Freedom Comes," a photographic documentation about the lives of Haitian field hands, in the sugarcane plantations in the Dominican Republic. After working as a photojournalist for nearly 20 years, Regis co-founded and serves as vice- president of Arm2Arm, Inc., a nonprofit organization that provides financial, medical and humanitarian support for poor Haitians who work on sugarcane plantations in the Dominican Republic. For the past five years, Regis has accompanied a medical team that sets up makeshift clinics in some of the plantations. In July 2010, he will sponsor a summer day camp for children. Upon his return he will have stories of Haiti's recovery process since the earthquake earlier this year. Mr. Regis will bring photos of Haiti, his books and stories. Please call to register: 860-243-9721.
